Why rats is used for experiments

Why rat is used for experiments

We all consider rats as creatures that spoil our food, but you will be shocked to know how much rats benefit us.

Whenever we have to choose animals for research we prefer to do experiments on rats and mice for human research.

The reason behind choosing rats is their anatomical, physiological, and genetic similarity to humans.

Some diseases that humans face like Cancer, Diabetes Hypertension, HIV, and AIDS these diseases also happen to rats. The nervous system of the rat and human beings react in the same way when infection or injury is happening to the body.

Another reason is that their reproduction period is only 3 months and can produce 2,00,000 (two lacks) children in just 18 months. Their life cycle is only two to three years, whereas, in humans, the child remains in the mother's womb for 9 months, apart from this, due to their small size, they take up very little space, which makes it easy to keep an eye on them.

What types of rats are used in research

Not every rat is used for experiments in the laboratory we mostly use white rat species such as Wister rats and Albino rats
